Furlan Marri is revealing a series of three mechanical flyback chronographs in collaboration with Revolution Watch and famed collector Auro Montanari.
The reference 3177-A ‘Taupe Flyback’ sports a taupe-colored dial and black and white indications, giving it great readability. The 38 mm steel case adopts the vintage-inspired codes, including 'olive-style' pushers. Each piece is individually numbered with an engraving between the lugs at 6 o’clock. The movements features a column-wheel for the flyback chronograph functions and provides a 63 hours power reserve.
This reference is limited to 300 pieces and sold exclusively by Furlan Marri.
FURLAN MARRI x REVOLUTION WATCH X AURO MONTANARI'S FLYBACK CHRONOGRAPHS
The movement. A column-wheel flyback chronograph, exclusively customized for Furlan Marri.
The Sellita AMT5100 features a column wheel-controlled flyback, manually wound and 100% assembled in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. The manually wound movement is tested in five positions and has a power reserve of 63 hours. The movement features meticulous finishes, including circular graining, côtes de Genève, and a blued column wheel and screws. It has been customized with a bridge exclusively redesigned for Furlan Marri and an 18K rose gold coating on the movement. Finally, the words ‘crafted with care, designed for details’ can be read around the column wheel.
A THREE-DIMENSIONAL DIAL
All the references have a ‘sandwich-style’ dial formed of two overlapping parts, which adds depth and emphasizes the two sub-counters. The indications are ‘double-printed’ and the applied hour-markers are polished. The attention to detail can be seen in the hands, which are CNC-machined, then polished and curved to accentuate the three-dimensional feeling.
Thickness of 10.9 mm
The stainless steel case has a height of 10.9 mm (13.2 mm including the sapphire glass on top), which contains the 7 mm thick mechanical movement.
A meaningful collaboration.
When Furlan Marri was launched in 2021 following a kickstarter campaign led by Andrea Furlan and Hamad Al-Marri, it received a wave of support from the watch press, particularly Revolution Watch magazine. The publication’s founder, the ground breaking Wei Koh, has an appreciation for emerging brands and was one of the first to support the project and advocate for Furlan Marri with the greatest collectors and watch lovers.
This made working with Wei Koh on this series of chronographs a particularly logical step. Selfless and always keen to foster connections, Wei Koh later introduced Auro Montanari to Andrea Furlan at the 2021 Geneva Watch Days.
As it happened, Auro Montanari already owned two Furlan Marri pieces because, in his words, “I love what you’re doing”.
Also known by his pen name ‘John Goldberger’, Auro is one of the world’s greatest watch collector and known in the industry for exemplifying Italian elegance and the very essence of watchmaking. His interest and knowledge for vintage watches directly influenced the design of these upcoming Furlan Marri mechanical flyback chronographs.
Auro came up with the svelte, curvilinear olive-shaped chronograph pushers used in two out of three of the models. He explained, “These are wonderful and rare styled pushers that no one today is using but [that] were popular with renowned brands in the 1930s.”
This conversation inspired us to work together on a major project : Furlan Marri’s very first mechanical chronographs. This collaboration yielded three models, references 3177-A ‘Taupe Flyback’, 3188-A ‘Salmon Flyback’ and 3199-A ‘Honey Blue Flyback’.
